I taught a class this past week at Redwood Sewing Center. It was one of my favorite classes to teach, French Roses, a pattern by Heather French. This is doable for anyone, raw beginners included, and fun for everyone. I even made a new sample from Moda: Sweetwater's new line called Noteworthy.
It's fun....just mark your flower shapes, cut out with scissors (it's OK if you can't cut exactly on the lines), stack them up and sew 1/4" from the edges. After it's washed the edges all fray and you get these great soft edges. So cozy. We even put flannel on the back.
Thanks for posting this pic. I've had this pattern for a while (traded one of MY patterns for one of Heather's patterns), but now you've got me thinking it should go to the top of the to-do list. I'm a teacher too and it sounds like a good beginning class.

What a pretty quilt! I can see making that with a young novice quilter...
