Who Doesn't Love a Giveaway?

When Liz and I were at Quilt Market in October we were walking purposely down an aisle when we had to alter our path due to a crowd gathered around a booth. I looked up and standing in front of us were Rebecca Yanker & Patricia Hoskins, the authors of the new smash hit: One Yard Wonders. We had a chance to chat with them a bit and see sample projects from their book. They were gracious enough to autograph a copy for us. And thus we come to our subject...We're having a Giveaway! One-Yard Wonders is chock full of delightful projects that all take only one yard of fabric. Directions are clear and the book is spiral bound with a pocket inside to hold the patterns.

200th Post Giveaway!

I sat down today to blog (I've not been very good lately---sooo busy getting ready for our upcoming Scottie Dog Quilts Alaskan Quilting Cruise) and realized that this is my 200th post...giveaway time! I'm going to give away a Cell Phone Tote. You get to choose from the picture. The bags have two inside pockets and a Velcro dot closure. They'll hold most all cellphones (blackberry included!) and many cameras. I'm going to take one on the cruise and give one to a friend. So leave me a comment and I'll randomly pick a winner next Wednesday, August 5.




When you sponsor a Quilting Cruise there are lots of details to iron out and extra things to pack. We'll have to have extra sewing machine needles, rotary cutter blades, thread, etc. in case someone forgets, runs out or breaks something. We have wonderful door prizes and favors for all our quilters and those needed to get packed. Liz and I went shopping for clothes last week and I was delighted to find a dress for our formal nights at a local discount store (I'm not too proud to admit it!). Of course I needed shoes to go with it...my flip flops or sketchers just weren't going to work. Since I have a hard-to-fit foot, I ordered a pair at my favorite catalog store....just hoping they arrive by the time we leave next week.


I sewed a dress for Sydney for one night (like I have nothing else to do!) and yesterday I got her to pose for me in her new dress.

What's in a Name?

William Shakespeare said it best, "What's in a name?" Have YOU named your Singer 221 Featherweight Sewing Machine? Several years ago some gals were admiring my Singer Featherweight and decided they'd have to get one too. Mine looks just like the picture.
Laura thought we should name our machines. After all, they are just like family. Each one has it's own personality, it's own unique purr when it sews. I use my 221 for most of my sewing. I own an Elna fancy smancy machine and I use it for lots of fancy work, but when I am piecing quilts or sewing curtains, etc, I use "Nellie Belle." Why did I name her Nellie Belle? That was my grandma's name. Laura said we should use our grandma's names. Liz has one she affectionately calls Marcie Mae after MY mom.

This is Sydney's "white" Featherweight. Some people call it a "green" featherweight as it has a greenish tinge (some have a taupe tinge). Mr. Scottie Dog found this for Sydney when she was born. She's four now and pretty soon will begin to learn to sew on it. She pretends to sew. Sydney's machine is named BrendaLou after HER grandma.
