The amazingly talented Jen Duncan

Don't you just love this adorable ABC Quilt? Want to make one? My friend, Jen Duncan has a tutorial on Moda Bakeshop for this darling quilt. I absolutely LOVE the scalloped boarder and Jen's method brings it into the capabilities of anyone who can sew. I've never seen anything like it and I've been teaching quilting for 20+ years.

"OK", you say, "I'd love to make a quilt like that but I'm not doing the A-word (applique for those not initiated) and I'm NOT cutting out each and every stinking letter no matter how cute it is."

Well, ladies and gentlemen.....today is your lucky day because you, too, can get a set of pre-cut, fusible-already-on-the-back, Alphabet Letters from the lady herself! And for a very, very cheap price. I know, because I am the owner of such a set already! I'm making my granddaughter, Sadies a quilt with paper dolls & Alphabet letters.

Where do you get these letters? What colors can you get? Well, check out Jen's Etsy Store. They are surprisingly cheap (Jen, do you make anything on them?) and with the fusible already applied, all you have to do is press them to a background square, stitch by hand or machine and you are done. I bet if you wanted just the letters for a specific name, she'd do that too.

Jen's Birthday Banner

My friend Jen Duncan is a talented woman. I've talked about her before but I want to congratulate her on making the Moda Bake Shop Blog with her Happy Birthday Banner. You can see the tutorial HERE and make one yourself! Isn't it fun? I think I need to make one for each of my kid's households. I have such talented friends.

The Guild Flea Market

I've talked before about my quilt guild (Redwood Empire Quilters Guild). March's program was to be a Flea Market. There were lots of tables and goods to buy: home made pickles (samples even!), apple butter, hot pepper jelly; old quilt & knitting patterns, grab bags of fabrics, yarns trims; baskets, nick knacks, hand made quilts, knitted booties, dyed silk scarves and more! Scottie Dog Quilts had a couple of tables and we sold a lot of our own cut 2 1/2" fabric strips we call "Honey Buns," patterns, die-cut tumblers & diamonds and lots more. Here's what our table looked like:
Bridgette brought several tables of lovely china, figurines (probably 50 chickens!), vintage pieces. She also had samples of the jars of jellies & preserves she'd made.



My good friend, Jen Duncan had wonderful things to sell....I just love her creative edge....and her new technique for making these rustic scallop edges on quilts!





I knew from her blog she was going to bring in die-cut (with WonderUnder already applied) Alphabet Letters so I'd actually reserved a set, but I hightailed it over to her table so I could get first pick. Don't you love her darling yo-yo kits? And those fabric & button flowers!




Jen has an Etsy store so no matter where you live you, too, can buy some of her wares. I only wish my camera caught her lovely smile. Jen smiles with her whole face, her eyes twinkle....she is such a calm person. I'm so glad to have met her through our store. Liz and I often say one of the best things about owning Scottie Dog Quilts is meeting the people we do.



Here are some really darling bags someone had for sale. There were fabric ones, felted wool totes, rag square bags and more.
There were so many things to see, I spent some of my $$ too.

Cute Bag!

This cute pyramid bag was made by a friend of mine, Jen Duncan. Jen is one of the most talented people I know. She comes into the shop and I love it when she brings in a project she's finished. She quilts, sews and her house is so very cute...she's painted, stenciled, sewed, recovered and more. I admire her for putting into practice what I dream about.

She's quite an artist and maintains a store at Etsy. Not long ago I saw two things I wanted. I bought a set of journal pages that were from Daly's Department Store in Eureka...they've been closed for years and years and the financial sheets are from 1927-34! The copperplate writing is so precise. All hand written with a fountain pen. The other was a Pyramid Bag is perfect for putting smaller items in my cosmetic bag when I travel.

Guild Party

My life has been full of holiday parties and events. Thursday night Liz and I attended the Redwood Empire Quilters Guild Holiday Party. We brought our goodies (Liz makes the most awesome fudge--rocky road this time), several doll quilts for the Salvation Army and a basket full of Fat Quarters for all the members. Each Christmas I load up a basket of a variety of Fat Quarters from our store and we give one to each member of the Guild. Just a little gift from us. No strings attached, just a Merry Christmas and thanks for helping to promote quilting.
When we got there our 2009 Opportunity Quilt was hanging. Oh, my it's beautiful! All batiks in several different NY Beauty-style blocks. Denise Witte of McKinleyville, CA did the quilting. Each block is quilted differently! I got my packet of tickets to sell. They are selling for $1 each or 6 for $5. If any of you want them let me know and I'll make arrangements. Just email me at ScottieDogQuilts@aol.com The drawing will be held at the guild's 2009 Quilt Show in July 2009. But watch out! I'm buying lots of tickets because I'd love to have this one!
It was fun to see Pat Durbin and Jen Duncan both very talented women. Pat is working on a new book for That Patchwork Place and be sure to check out Jen's Etsy Store! The food was unbelievable....Kenny Fleck showed up with Bridgett..."I always come at Christmas," he said, "This is the best potluck in town!"
As usual, show and tell was awesome...I was so interested I forgot to take pictures.
